These types of fires are likely to become more common and there might not be a lot to do to prevent them.
Ken Benson President of the Oakland Firesafe Council said with all that growth in California's desert dry landscape comes a greater risk of fire. The pictures he's seen are reminiscent of the Oakland Hills, Dixie and Cascade fires, the latter two started from aging powerlines.
"To go burry those now and capitalize that will cost us the rate papers will probably be prohibitive," Benson told KCBS Radio.
But money will have to be spent on upgrades and prevention he said, even how the fires have been fought has changed in the last couple of decades Orange County Fire Chief Brian Fennessy said.
"20 years ago, I would say that we took fire on a lot more directly nowadays the threat again to life and property and firefighter life is extreme," Fennessy said.
