Man missing after hiking in Yosemite, park officials say

A man who may have been experiencing suicidal thoughts has gone missing after possibly hiking to the Upper Yosemite Falls overlook Thursday, park officials said.

Ralph Elliott is believed to have gone on a day hike to the overlook and Eagle Peak on Thursday and has not been seen since, according to a Yosemite National Park alert.

The 51-year-old may have been exhibiting emotional distress and suicidal ideation, officials said.

Elliott is described as a muscular white male, standing 5 foot 8 inches tall with blue eyes, a beard and long, graying hair that is often worn in a bun. He was wearing earth-toned, casual clothing.

Anyone with information about Elliott is asked to call Yosemite National Park officials at (209) 372-0216 during business hours or at (209) 379-1992 after hours.
