MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KNX) – The suspect believed to be responsible for the Monterey Park shooting that took the lives of at least 10 and injured 10 more on Saturday night has died.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed this during a press conference early Sunday evening.
The suspect was identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran.
Tran died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Luna said.
Luna also said Tran used a magazine-fed semi-automatic assault pistol that had an extended large capacity magazine. It was the same weapon that was recovered in Alhambra.

At the scene of the standoff in Torrance was KNX News’ Nataly Tavidian who reported before the news conference that she could see a bullet hole in the side of a white van that police believed to be linked to the shooting. Inside she reported seeing a person slouched over inside.
A motive in the mass shooting is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
