On Friday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a timeline for winding down and dismantling all 58 COVID-19-related executive orders.
“California is turning the page on this pandemic, thanks to swift action by the state and the work of Californians who followed public health guidelines and got vaccinated to protect themselves and their communities,” said Newsom.
The various actions were put into place in March of last year.
The changes won’t begin all at once, to give businesses and individuals time to adjust. The provisions will end in phases beginning this month, July and September. If all goes according to the timeline, about 90% of the orders enacted during the pandemic will be lifted by the end of September.
“With nearly 40 million vaccines administered and among the lowest case rates in the nation,” said Newsom. “We are lifting the orders that impact Californians on a day-to-day basis while remaining vigilant to protect public health and safety as the pandemic persists.”
A small portion of executive actions will remain in effect to help facilitate the state’s ongoing recovery efforts, such as allowing pharmacy technicians to administer vaccinations.
