With under a week left before ballots are due, former President Barack Obama has cut an advertisement where he urges Californians to vote "no" on the upcoming recall election for Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The spot, which launched Thursday, opens with Obama telling Californians they "have a big choice to make."
On the other hand, he declared that the Republican candidates will "overturn common sense public safety measures for healthcare workers and school staff," while an image of leading candidate Larry Elder shaking hands with former President Donald Trump flashed across the scene.
"Your vote could be the difference between helping California and putting them at risk, helping Californians recover or taking us back." Obama said while pointing at the camera.
"Protect California by voting "no" on the Republican recall," he concluded.
Obama is the latest high profile Democrat to publicly back Newsom and plead with Californians to vote. Vice President Kamala Harris spoke alongside Newsom at a rally in San Leandro on Wednesday, and President Joe Biden is expected to stump for the governor early next week. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar have also campaigned for Newsom in the state, while Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez supported him on social media this week.
Voting for the recall ends on September 14.
