Just a few weeks ago, Panda Express introduced a plant-based option to their menu – and it didn't last long at all.

The "Beyond The Original Orange Chicken" was made available in Southern California and New York on July 26.

The dish is now sold out in all 10 California locations.

Following a recent wave to revolutionize fast food with non-meat options, Panda Express launched the non-meat version of their famous orange chicken shortly after partnering with the plant-based meat producer Beyond Meat.

"Thanks to our Panda team at the 10 locations, we wok-fired more than 1,300 pounds of Beyond The Original Orange Chicken in just the first day alone," the fast food chain reported to SFGATE. "The excitement from our guests is unparalleled, and it’s one of our most successful regional launches to date at Panda."

Demand for plant-based meat has exploded in recent years, with sales of meat substitutes reaching $7 billion in 2020. In 2019, San Francisco was crowned the most vegan-friendly city.

Panda Express has not yet revealed when the new dish will make its debut in the Bay Area, but we can be sure it will be popular.
