PG&E said it began to cut power to about 361,000 customers across California on Sunday, as forecasts predict the state will experience the most dangerous fire weather conditions of the year.

The utility said it notified customers in 36 counties and 17 tribal communities about the Public Safety Power Shutoff due to the extremely dry, windy conditions.

The shutoffs began at roughly 10 a.m. Sunday in Shasta, Tehama, Glenn and Colusa Counties, impacting about 26,000 customers.

More than 105,000 Bay Area customers could lose power. The counties set to be impacted by the PSPS event include Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma.

The Bay Area outages are expected to begin at 3 p.m. in Contra Costa and Napa Counties. Solano and Sonoma Counties are set to have power cut at 4 p.m. At 6 p.m., power should be cut to Marin County. Alameda County may see outages starting at 8 p.m. Finally, outages in San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties are expected to begin at 10 p.m.

In the North Bay, the utility said about 45,000 customers could lose their power, around 33,000 customers may be affected in the East Bay and in the South Bay, including Santa Cruz, nearly 20,000 could lose power.

PG&E predicted power will be restored to most customers by Tuesday night.

PG&E said it will have 110 Community Resource Centers open during the shutoffs.

The National Weather Service has called a Red Flag Warning for the entire Bay Area, in effect Sunday morning. Forecasters upgraded it from a Fire Weather Watch Friday afternoon.

PG&E was still attempting to restore power Friday morning to all 31,000 customers who lost electricity in last Wednesday's PSPS event.
