Authorities in the City of Orange, California are investigating a mass shooting involving at least six victims, four of which have died.

One of those killed was a child. Their age wasn't immediately released.

The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a two-story office building with multiple tenants located at 202 W. Lincoln Ave. in Orange. "Officers arrived as shots were being fired and located multiple victims at the scene including fatalities," a Facebook post said.

Police added that the situation was stabilized by 7 p.m., indicating officers shot and wounded the unidentified shooter. No officers were hurt.

It's not clear why the child was at the office building.

An officer told KNX 1070 News that one of the six victims was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The building, which houses several businesses, is across the street from an apartment complex, the station reported.

"I’m deeply saddened by reports of a mass shooting in Orange County, and I’m continuing to keep victims and their loved ones in my thoughts as we continue to learn more," Rep. Katie Porter said in a statement posted to Twitter. "My team and I will continue to monitor the situation closely."

Other details are unclear, including a motive for the attack.

Orange Police said this is the first mass shooting there since 1997.
