An Irvine resident last Thursday told authorities he suspected he was being poisoned by his wife after falling ill over the course of one month. The man captured video evidence supporting his claim and presented it to police.
Officers interviewed the suspect, 45-year-old Yue Yu, and conducted a search of her home where they both live. Yu was subsequently arrested for allegedly poisoning her husband and booked at Orange County Jail. She was released after posting $30,000 bail on Friday, according to police records.
The man sustained significant internal injuries as a result of the alleged poisoning, but is expected to survive, police said.
The Los Angeles Times reported that Yu is a dermatologist with an office at Mission Viejo. She is affiliated with Providence Mission Hospital, who told the paper in a statement that they were aware of the arrest and were cooperating with police. "We want to reassure our community that there has been no impact on our patients," the hospital said. According to the outlet, her biography was removed from the hospital's site as of Sunday.
No other information, including the nature of the poison, a possible motive and the identity of the victim, has been released.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Irvine police by calling 949-724-7183 or emailing Detective Kate Nespeca at knespeca@cityofirvine.org.
