On Wednesday a man called the sheriff's office and reported his 14-year-old son and friend Christopher Stephenson – from Marysville – were missing, according to Butte County Sheriff’s Office. At some point during the camping trip, the father got separated from his son and Stephenson, authorities said.

Officers arrived at the campsite near Bald Rock Trailhead near Bean Creek Road, Berry Creek and started searching for the missing people. Search and Rescue, Special Enforcement Unit Deputies and a helicopter helped with the search.

Officers found a teenager's body close to the bottom of a steep rock embankment, police reported. They pronounced him dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about Christopher Stephenson is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 530-538-7322.
