The University of California is helping the city of Davis offer free, regular COVID-19 tests to all residents.
Through the program, known as Healthy Davis Together, thousands of COVID-19 tests are administered in the city every day.
Mayor Gloria Partida said they're available to everyone.
“Every person who lives or works in Davis is eligible to come in and be tested, and we’re recommending that if you spend a lot of time in the community you come in twice a week, otherwise at least once a week,” the mayor told KCBS Radio.
Partida said that, however, only people without symptoms are being tested because they're the ones who may unwittingly be spreading the virus.
People can make an appointment or just walk up to one of the testing centers.
“It’s very convenient,” she said. “It takes about 5 minutes. There’s usually not a line, and even when there is a line it goes very, very quickly. You get results within 24 to 28 hours. I’ve never had to wait 48 hours for results.”
The tests are provided by the University of California, Davis.
Partida said she believes the program will help the city reopen and help residents feel confident that potential outbreaks will be controlled when more students return to campus.
