A day after California lifted its statewide mask mandate for indoor public spaces, Gov. Gavin Newsom is set to outline how the state will approach the COVID-19 pandemic moving forward.
Newsom will speak live from San Bernandino County at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, and the governor's office said in a release that the state will focus on "continued readiness, awareness and flexibility" as "California emerges" from the omicron variant's surge.
You can listen to portions of the press conference live on KCBS Radio, or watch the entirety of it in the embedded player below. The governor's announcement will also stream on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
California was averaging 42.3 cases per 100,000 residents every day over the week ending on Wednesday, according to state data, which is lower than this winter's peak but far higher than before omicron took hold.
Seventy-four percent of eligible state residents were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Thursday morning, while 55.8% of booster-eligible residents have received an additional dose. However, fewer than 50% of Californians aged 18-49 have gotten a booster, as have just shy of 30% of eligible children aged 12-17.
