Due to extensive repairs, Yosemite National Park is closing three of its iconic campgrounds, including the famous Tuolumne Meadows.
"Next year we will have three campgrounds closed. It will be the Bridalveil Creek campground on glacier point road, the Crane Flat campground and the largest campground in the park, the Tuolumne Meadows," Yosemite Park Ranger Scott Gediman told KCBS Radio's Rebecca Corral.

Tuolumne Meadows, which was built in the 1930s, is home to over three-hundred sites and attracts 150,000 visitors each year. "It's had a lot of wear," Gediman explained.
Through the restoration, national park officials plan to move campsites out of the floodplain, increase accessibility, improve restrooms, add new restrooms and "really just fix it up."
The project is estimated to take two years, meaning the campground will be closed for the following season as well as 2022 and 2023, which may come as a disappointing blow to campers eager to visit the site. "We understand that it is a long time and we appreciate the public's patience, but it’s going to be great when it's done," Gediman said. "I’ve been able to see a lot of the design, and the improvements will be well worth it."
Yosemite lovers should not despair, however, as there are new sites opening at Camp Four. In fact, they even have showers and a bathroom, Gediman said excitedly.
Bridalveil Creek and Crane Flat campgrounds are projected to be open in 2022.
