SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Monday brought more rain and even some hail to San Francisco, but it's not expected to last all day, and it's a similar story around the Bay Area with sporadic showers and wind.

This comes after an unusual snowfall towards the end of last week, keeping Bay Area residents and commuters on their toes with the latest wet weather.

"We have seen a few thunderstorms in the area," said Braden Murdock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "Producing a good amount of lightning over the water and some over the San Mateo Peninsula as well as going into the East Bay."

"But the strongest portion of the frontal band is starting to move into the South Bay right now," he said. "So we're looking at San Jose being the next area being affected mostly by the stronger storms."

Between the rain Monday and then more expected Tuesday, a lot of areas are anticipating half an inch to an inch of rain.

"But if you get one of those thunderstorms over you, you could see a half inch more than other areas around you," said Murdock.

Some of the rain is going to be very localized in the next day or so.

While there will be some snow in some areas – above 3,000 feet – but some snow might not accumulate all that well.

There will be a brief break in between systems later this week until the weekend when there might be more showers coming back.
This season is a marked difference from last year, when it was an exceptionally dry January through February.

"We're kind of set up perfectly in the jetstream for us to get a conveyer belt of these systems coming through," he said.
