It's not often you see snow in the Bay Area, but a mid-March storm has dropped a fresh blanket of white powder at some of the region's highest elevations.
Residents reported a dusting Wednesday morning at roughly 3,000 feet in the Santa Cruz Mountains along the peninsula and the Diablo Range in the East Bay.
Snow also accumulated near the Central Coast, said the National Weather Service.
At lower elevations, particularly near Santa Rosa and Moss Beach, "significant hailstorms," slick roads and heavy downpours led to several vehicle crashes Wednesday along Highway 101, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department and the California Highway Patrol.

In many spots, pea-sized hail accumulated quickly.
KCBS Radio also received reports Tuesday of "several inches" of hail near Cloverdale, and even some in the South Bay along Highway 237.

The wet weather is expected to continue on and off throughout Wednesday.
