SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The cold weather system passing through over the Bay Area is bringing snow to places that rarely get touched by the white stuff.

One area that isn't used to it is the Berkeley Hills near Grizzly Peak, where the snowfall is causing chaos for some commuters.

Snow is covering the Berkeley Hills – at least an inch of the white stuff – it's breathtaking and also nerve-wracking.

Commuters have been slipping and sliding, even becoming immobilized off the side of the road.

There have also been reports of snow in the Oakland Hills, the Altamont Pass, and Mt. Diablo, likely the most snowfall here since 2001.

"We're going to continue to see these rain showers and snow showers linger throughout the morning and into the early afternoon," said Meteorologist Roger Gass with the National Weather Service. "As the rain showers start to shift a little bit to the south."

But according to Gass, people can expect cloudy, unsettled weather at least until the middle of next week.

Those who do plan to head out in higher elevations should pack some snow chains.
