But despite some encouraging signs of rain forecasted for next week, it looks as if those possible showers have dissipated after all.

"The latest numbers have trended down significantly in terms of chances of precipitation and the amount for early May," said Drew Peterson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Bay Area office.

"Previously last week, we were looking at, you know, looks like a decent chance of rain, perhaps clipping the area between Monday and Tuesday next week," he said.

But the chance of rainfall is not very common in the month of May, and it appears as if the start of the month will adhere to the norm.

There is a storm system moving towards Mendocino, the further northwest region of the state, said Peterson. This might give the Bay Area a few "stray drops," between Sonoma and Napa counties, he said.

But it won’t be enough to "change the narrative" of rainfall in the area, he said.

There may be some hope yet, but it’s a bit too early to tell.

"So that that chance early next week is dissipating and lifting northward," said Peterson. "There is a second potential system, not this weekend, but the following weekend that we have been watching."
