SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The weekend storms brought even more rain and snow to the already-soaked California.

With the extra rainfall, San Francisco has reached a significant milestone for precipitation.

During the current rainfall season, the city has received just about 22 inches of rain, a full season’s worth of precipitation in just a few months.

The city hit this important milestone Saturday afternoon.

"Well, we did have quite the wet event over the weekend," said Sean Miller, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "Plenty of rainfall for most of us, around a quarter of an inch, up to three-quarters of an inch locally."

According to Miller, higher elevations like the Santa Cruz mountains saw up to two inches of rain.

San Francisco managed to set a record on New Year’s Eve last month when it saw nearly five and a half inches of rain.

That’s about 25% of its average rainfall for the entire year.

"Obviously we didn't want quite as much as we got all at one time with the flooding earlier on in the season," said Miller.

"But getting this is really helping to green things up and help us in regards to the drought," he said.

Meanwhile, the Sierra near Lake Tahoe saw anywhere from five to ten inches of snow over the weekend.

More rain and snow are expected next weekend.
