For those who still have family in the area, it can be stressful thinking of what their relatives are going through while staying in the city.
"I found out that Russian troops stopped just three kilometers from their village and they didn’t tell me about that, not to worry me," said Iryna Nemyrovych in Lviv, Co-Founder and Executive Director at The Ukrainian Health Center Educational Research Center on KCBS Radio with Holly Quan and Eric Thomas on Monday.
Nemyrovych is originally from Kyiv, and she also made the journey to Kyiv over the weekend to see her family.

"They're there to fight, they have constant training every day, they're becoming stronger and stronger warriors and they plan to stay there," she said.
The Russian forces stopped short of her family's village, but they left a trail of destruction in their wake.
"The houses are totally destroyed," said Nemyrovych. "As you drive on the main highway from the west of Ukraine to Kyiv, you can see tanks just standing on the road."

"They're totally burned," she said. "And you can see destroyed houses, petrol stations, supermarkets – everything is just destroyed."
People have been evacuated from the wreckage, as the buildings are no longer structurally sound, and could collapse.
The newly appointed commander of the Russian invasion, Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, has a brutal reputation, and as the war continues, other areas will soon need to be evacuated as well, said Nemyrovych.
