As the two major political parties’ Presidential campaigns continue to ramp up towards the November election, President Joe Biden appears to be making gains in a pair of battleground states, as well as nationwide with an unexpected demographic.

Even as Republican nominee Donald Trump, the incumbent President that voters ousted from the White House four years ago, makes surprising gains with younger voters, a demographic he lost handily in both his loss to Biden in 2020 AND his win over Hillary Clinton in 2016, Biden appears to be making big strides with older voters.

If that result were to bear out in November, it would be the first time a Democrat wins the 65 and older vote since the 2000 election.

Older voters when polled seem to be buying into Biden’s declarations that Republicans are looking to cut Social Security and Medicare if Trump is reinstalled as Commander-in-Chief.

“First, older voters strongly support what Biden has done to lower drug costs for seniors on Medicare,” Biden campaign pollster Geoff Garin told Axios. “Second, older voters pay much more attention to the news than any other group, so they are the most aware of any group of how unhinged and extreme Donald Trump has become.”

Those gains among older voters are spurring a surge for Biden in three older-skewing Midwestern swing states – Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Winning all three would likely get Biden the necessary electoral votes to secure a second term as President.
