On the heels of a large recall, Ford Motor Company has just recalled 694,271 vehicles due to risks of fuel injectors cracking. Impacted vehicles include 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 Escape models with 1.5-Liter engines.
Earlier this month, WWJ Newsradio reported on the recall of more than 850,000 Ford vehicles in the U.S. over an issue that could cause engines to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the newer recall issued July 14 (number 25S76) “expands and replaces previous recall numbers 22V-859, 24V187, and 25V165.” Those with vehicles that were previously remedied under 22V-859, 24V187, and 25V165 will need to have the new final remedy performed once it is available.
Fuel injectors in the recalled vehicles may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment. When there is a fuel leak near an ignition source such as a hot engine, the risk of fire increases. Currently, the remedy for this issue is still under development, per the NHTSA notice.
“As an interim repair, dealers will update the engine control software, free of charge,” the administration said. “Owner notification letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed August 18, 2025. Second letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.”
GM, another Detroit-based auto company also made headlines this week for another challenging issue: a 35% profit drop in its second quarter, including a $1.1 billion hit from tariffs. Read WWJ Newsradio’s coverage here.
