PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Ten thousand sandwiches made of nearly one and half tons of donated meat and cheese will be passed out to those struggling for food amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
It happens Monday morning at 9 a.m. at Oakmont Bakery until all the sandwiches are gone.
KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin is helping out.
“You’ll be in your car, open up your trunk, put in the sandwiches and roll,” said Griffin. “Everything will be safe and sanitary.”
The giveaway is being coordinated by Eric Chaffin, founder of Chaffin Luhana law firm. Oakmont Bakery is providing all the bread. Turners is donating milk. And several other businesses are chipping in with donations.
Volunteers will be wearing gloves and food will be pre-packaged.
There are no restrictions for who can pick up the free lunch that will also come with chips.
412 Food Rescue will also deliver sandwiches to local organizations Monday morning.
Griffin adds police will be on hand to help keep things orderly.
