PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A State Representative out of Cranberry Township is calling for Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto’s impeachment.
Rep. Daryl Metcalfe tweeted Tuesday night about drafting a resolution to impeach Peduto over three gun legislation bills signed into law earlier in the day.
“The sole power of impeachment belongs to the House of Representatives here in Pennsylvania when you have an elected official who is misbehaving in office and I don’t think there is anyone that could disagree, not matter which side of the debate you would fall on, on policy issues around what the mayor and his council are debating and ultimately in which they took illegal action on now because they’re all willfully taking this action,” said Metcalfe.
Metcalfe adds that Peduto and council are knowingly violating state law in an effort to change it and that is grounds for impeachment.
“I think (it) certainly meets the section of our constitution that talks about impeachment that you can be removed by impeachment for any misbehavior in office,” said Metcalfe. “I think violating the constitution, violating the law, doing it knowingly especially constitutes misbehavior in office.
Metcalfe’s district does not cover the City of Pittsburgh but he says that doesn’t matter.
“I’m an elected lawmaker for the state of Pennsylvania from Western Pennsylvania ultimately from Butler County out of the 12th district and not only do I spend some time in Pittsburgh but many of my constituents work there, travel there, have family there and I’m speaking up on behalf of those individuals that live in the city also that are law abiding Americans . . . who don’t believe that their rights should be infringed by an illegal action by this mayor,” said Metcalfe.
