Allegheny County Ozone Level Rose Above Standard Two Days In A Row

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Allegheny County Health Department has announced a second exceedance of the eight-hour National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

The Harrison ozone monitor on Monday registered .074 parts per million, the standard is .070 ppm.

Sunday and Monday were both Air Quality Action days for ozone, when there is a higher potential for higher concentration of ozone near the ground.

The single exceedance is not a violation but it will be looked into further to see if any action is necessary.

Data is collected over a three-year average to find out if federal standards are met.

All monitors in the county (Harrison, Lawrenceville and South Fayette) are meeting those standards currently.

On Sunday, the monitor at South Fayette registered .071 ppm on Sunday.

The health department says that hot weather can impact anyone's health, regardless of age and that even when an Action Day is not called, people should take the proper precautions to stay safe from excessive heat.

High temperatures in the Pittsburgh area will remain in the mid-80s to low 90s through early next week.
