Arctic Blast Only Temporary For Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Arctic air in the northern Plains is expanding into Pittsburgh and the Northeast Friday.

Temps around the area will only get up into the low 20s before falling back into the teens overnight Friday with an occasional flurry.

Forecaster Patrick Burke is at the Weather Prediction Center.

"This has been kind of a change. January was pretty mild across most of the country, but the last week or so we've seen some article outbreaks into the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes and early this morning temperatures were below zero even pretty near Chicago and up through Minneapolis and Bismarck," said Burke. "We have wind-chill advisors and wind chill warns in effect for that region of the country."

Nothing that severe in the Pittsburgh area. But today's high is only 20.

But winter isn't sticking around for long.

Temperatures will get above freezing Saturday afternoon and will be back into the 40s Monday and Tuesday.
