PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A nationwide backlog on laptop computers means not every student in the Pittsburgh Public Schools will have a school-issued laptop for the start of classes.Classes for the first nine weeks are online.

Superintendent Dr. Anthony Hamlet says some families are being asked to use a home computer until final shipments come in.

“Hopefully within September, the computers are rolling in right now as we speak, we got three shipments last week, we’re getting additional shipments this week as well,” said Hamlet.

Hamlet originally earlier this summer that every child would have a computer but now he has to revise that promise.“Every student who needs a devise or computer, internet access they will have that based on need,” said Hamlet.Pre K through first grade have iPads for the start of school. Some second through 12th graders must use family computers until shipments arrive.
