PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — The couple charged with beating a Pittsburgh Public elementary school teacher in 2017 will spend 11 1/2 to 23 months in jail.

Daishonta Williams and Vincent Beasley pleaded guilty in November to following King PreK-8 teacher Janice Davis Watkins home and attacking her while waiting in traffic at the West End Bridge.

"Schools are having trouble finding teachers and cases like this, a lot of the time they're precedent-setting cases," Williams's defense attorney Blaine Jones told KDKA Radio's Lynne Hayes-Freeland. "Courts want to make sure that protected class that teachers are a part of are truly protected."

Williams and Beasley pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault and conspiracy charges in November. They must also complete 100 hours of community service and five years of probation.
