PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Allegheny County Health Department has confirmed the first death in the county due to COVID-19.
Officials say the person was an adult who was hospitalized and no further information will be made available at this time out of respect to the family's privacy.
Allegheny Health Network released the following statement Saturday afternoon:
"Allegheny Health Network (AHN) today confirmed that a patient hospitalized at Jefferson Hospital with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has passed away. We extend our sincerest condolences to the patient's loved ones and our immense gratitude to the exceptional caregivers at Jefferson and across AHN who are on the front lines of our community's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There will be no additional information provided about the patient, and no media availability with AHN representatives today."
In addition to the death, there are now 31 positive cases in Allegheny with five of those hospitalized.
More results are expected to be announced throughout the day.
