COVID-19 Outbreak At WV Church Rises To 41 Cases

CHARLESTOWN, W Va. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA/AP) - An outbreak of COVID-19 linked to a church in Charlestown West Virginia has now grown to at least 41 cases.

Officials in Greenbrier County said the caseload connected to the Graystone Baptist Church in Lewisburg increased after they received several new positive test results over the weekend.

The Greenbrier County Health Department says a total of 51 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the county since the beginning of the pandemic with 10 people fully recovered.

West Virginia has also had outbreaks connected to people vacationing to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, this month.

Health officials are urging the public to wear a mask in public, practice social distancing and other safety measures.

89 people have died as a result of COVID-19 in the state and over 2,500 have tested positive in the pandemic came to West Virginia.
