(Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Due to hundreds of students calling off due to the flu, an Ohio school district has been closed the past two days.

Three Rivers School District in Cleves, close to Cincinnati, has had close to 600 students call off school earlier this week.

"Although our goal is to protect as much instructional time as possible, we also need to do everything we can to ensure our students and staff are healthy and in the best environment to foster learning. After closely looking at the percentage of our staff and student absences related to the cold/flu, the Superintendent and the Board of Education, in collaboration with the Commissioner of the Hamilton County Public Health Department, have decided to close,” the distcit said on their website.

The custodial staff in the district will clean and sanitize the schools while all of their students are home.

In addition to classrooms, staff will clean all buses and Chromebooks, that the students use for learning.

The district plans to reopen on Monday, February 3.
