PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The gates to PNC Park Open at 11 a.m. but some fans arrived early to tailgate.

But being on the North Shore you'd think people are getting ready for a Steelers game rather than a Pirates game.

With temperatures in the low 30s Monday morning, everyone is bundled up trying to stay warm.

Joe Conaway and his wife drove in from Harrisburg and were pretty bundled up but Conaway says he could use a few more layers.

"I need a couple more shirts to put on and then we'll be ready," said Conaway. "I think our seats are in the sun, which shouldn't be too bad."

Matt from Cranberry who is attending his first Home Opener says he is excited for the 2019 Pirates despite the colder weather.

"I'm encouraged by at least what I've seen in the first couple of games, their starters looked really strong," said Matt. "I'm excited to see what Archer can do today. They seem to be hitting the ball well so I'm optimistic that it's going to be another winning season."

A high of only 43 degrees is expected for the Home Opener but the sun is also expected to shine and that will help.

Parking lots are open, The Clemente Bridge is open to only pedestrian traffic and fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:30 p.m. for all of the pregame ceremonies.
