PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Good news about the flu in Allegheny County.
The number of new flu cases continues to fall.
There were more than 400 new cases last week, down from more than 600 the week before.
The season peaked in late December.
But the area is not out of the woods yet.
LISTEN: AHN's Dr. Preiss on the flu
With the early flu season, Dr. Preiss says there could be another peak before spring.
"I don't think we've seen the peak of the season yet," said Preiss. "It generally occurs in February and March and last year we were making diagnosis of flu in May."
Preiss adds the vaccine is still the best way to stay well.
"Vaccinating every year, not just one year and skip a couple, vaccinating every year is really important," said Preiss.
No new flu deaths last week. That number stays at three. 54 people have been hospitalized with the flu, compared to 20 the same time last
