PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Giant Eagle announced Friday that the Parkway Center Mall location will be temporarily converted into a curbside pickup center.
The location will close to in-store shopping on Friday, May 1.
The move will help the grocery chain fulfill the higher demand for curbside pickup since the coronavirus outbreak.
“As we’ve been piloting creative solutions to increase our curbside pickup and delivery capacity, we have been very pleased with the results of our recent supermarket to pickup center conversions in our other markets,” said Giant Eagle Spokesperson Jannah Jablonowski. “There continues to be an unprecedented demand for grocery pickup and delivery options, and we are very excited to bring this curbside pickup center model to Pittsburgh to make thousands of additional spots available to our guests each week.”
Curbside and delivery services will begin operating on Sunday, May 3.
“This location will fulfill next-day pickup and delivery orders, and all payments will be processed online to reduce contact between guests and Team Members. Slots will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily,” Giant Eagle said in a release.
The Parkway Center in-store pharmacy will continue to operate both inside the pharmacy and pick up window from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Current employees at the Parkway Center location will also have the opportunity to work at the converted curbside pickup center or temporarily move to another nearby location.
With the store closing to public shopping, Giant Eagle is preparing the Crafton and Cochran Road locations for increased traffic as well as the Settlers Ridge Market District location.
Those who wish to place orders online for pick up or delivery can do so using Giant Eagle’s smartphone app or by ordering on their website.
