Skip The Checkout Line at GetGo Thanks To New Technology

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - You can now skip the checkout line at the Waterworks GetGo in Fox Chapel.

The store has launched checkout-free technology through an app that allows customers to shop for their items and scan a code on the way out of the store to pay.

“We’re excited to bring checkout-free technology to our Pittsburgh area shoppers. With Grabango, our GetGo guests are able to get in, get out and get going even faster with a more convenient, contactless, shopping experience,” said Laura Karet, President and CEO of Giant Eagle, Inc.

Karet said Giant Eagle will eventually add the technology to additional convenience stores and grocery stores.

Customer who wish to take advantage of the new technology shuld download the Grabandgo app from their phone's app store and then follow these instructions:

  • Enter the store normally. There are no turnstiles or check-in required.
  • Shop as usual. The system automatically accounts for all selected items.
  • Skip the checkout line and scan the code in their Grabango app on the way out.
  • Receive an accurate, digital receipt in the app

"Together, Giant Eagle and Grabango are offering new levels of convenience by solving everyone's #1 frustration - waiting in checkout lines," said Will Glaser, CEO of Grabango.

The initial announcement that the grocery and convenience store chain was testing this technology came around this time last year.
