PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Giant Eagle is following the example of stores like Dollar General and dedicated an hour for seniors to shop.

Beginning Monday, March 23, Giant Eagle will open at 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday to those most vulnerable of the COVID-19 virus.

The stores will also welcome the “differently abled or immune-compromised” members of the community.

The change goes for all Giant Eagle and Market Districts.

“We continue to be amazed by the commitment of our Team Members, who have again stepped up to make sure that the most vulnerable members of our communities have an opportunity to comfortably shop in our stores,” said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan.  “We ask that all customers help us by respecting these hours for the health and well-being of our community during this time.”

Giant Eagle adds their team members won’t be checking IDs for age confirmation but ask that people please respect the hour and wait till at least 7 a.m.
