HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf is endorsing presumptive Democratic candidate Joe Biden for the 2020 Presidential Election.
In a statement, the governor says the former vice president "is the strong, steady leader who can best heal our deep divides and enact legislation to lift up all working Pennsylvanians."
"Now more than ever, Pennsylvania needs a partner in Washington. We need a champion for our working families, who can make quality health care and education accessible to all families, and won't boost corporations and rich CEOs at the expense of middle-class people in our state," added Wolf.
President Donald Trump was the first Republican since 1984 to win the commonwealth.
Pennsylvania is considered a crucial "swing state" if a candidate wants to win the presidency.
A recent poll by Redfield & and Wilton shows Biden ahead of Trump 48 percent to 39 percent.
Another poll conducted May 9-13 by Hodas & Associates shows Trump with a 50 percent to 46 percent edge over Biden in November.
Other PA leaders have also endorse Biden, including Senator Bob Casey and former PA governor Ed Rendell.
The Republican National Committee released a statement following Wolf's endorsement criticizing what it called his "one size fits all strategy" for reopening Pennsylvania.
The RNC also criticized Biden for an energy agenda it says would, "wreak havoc on Pennsylvania's economy."
Jennifer Bloodworth and Andrew Limberg contributed to this report.
