HARRISBURG, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf is voicing his support for New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern who is promising gun reform after Friday's attacks that left dozens dead and wounded at Christchurch mosques.
Arden will release details of the gun reform this week, with tighter restrictions on semi-automatic weapons expected.
Wolf told KDKA Radio he thinks restriction on those types of weapons is a good idea.
“I don’t understand why anybody thinks we ought to have military style weapons and her call for a ban on that I think makes perfect sense, it’s reasonable,” said Wolf. “I think what happened in New Zealand, what happened at Tree of Life synagogue in October, all those things just add to the resolve that we need to be reasonable about the second amendment.”
Wolf added military-style weapons are “not needed for hunting.”
Wolf says he also wants stronger background checks, similar to those used in New Zealand.
Pennsylvania lawmakers are also considering a bill that would create a statewide firearm registry.
