PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Governor Tom Wolf indicates he is likely to oppose allowing all construction sites in Pennsylvania to reopen.

On the KDKA Radio Morning Show Wolf was asked about a bill sponsored by House Speaker Mike Turzai of Bradford Woods that would allow public and private construction to restart if contractors followed Centers for Disease Control guidelines for preventing spread of COVID-19.

"He and I have talked about that. We have opened construction sites." The Governor referred to Penn DOT restarting work on essential highway and bridge projects and private work resuming on hospitals and similar projects.

"Which bad choice do you want." Wolf says he's trying to avoid the healthcare system being overwhelmed which he says would have worse and more long term negative effects on the economy. "Let's err on the side of staying home."

Asked if Pennsylvania is getting the help it needs from the federal government, the Governor responded positively. "Yeah, we are," said Wolf. "We are on not quite daily but frequent calls with the President and Vice-President. We're trying to do everything we can to cooperate with the things that they're suggesting. So, I think so far we've been able to work together."
