PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Some gun shops in the Pittsburgh area are reporting brisk sales in the last view days amid coronavirus fears.

The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office says it issued twice as many gun permits Monday as usual.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus told the Tribune-Review that 150 people had received permits by 2 p.m.

He added the office normally sees anywhere from 40 to 70 permits on a normal day.

On Monday, the Sheriff's Office announced the Firearms Division will close temporarily for two weeks.

The situation will be reevaluated at that time.

The Office posted this reminder on Facebook Monday:

"REMINDER: Title 18, Section 6106 b(12) states that as long as you are eligible to renew your license, said license is still valid for six months beyond the printed expiration date on the license."
