PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) Two pets tested positive for the coronavirus in New York on Wednesday. It was the first reported case in the United States.
The same thing previously happened in Hong Kong.
In a small Chinese study, cats, dogs, pigs, ducks and chickens were infected with a high dose of COVID-19 through their nostrils.
"The pigs, ducks, and chickens had no susceptibility whatsoever, which was good. Dogs had very low susceptibility; and cats had high susceptibility," Veterinarian Dr. Mike Hutchinson said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show.
However, they have not seen any transmission from cats or dogs to humans "which is the most important thing to watch for," Dr. Mike explained.
