PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority reports lead drinking water levels have fallen to their lowest mark in over 20 years.
The level from testing 158 homes most affected by lead is 5.1 parts per billion, the reading six months ago was 10 ppb.
Executive Director Will Pickering says the federal action level is 15 ppb.
“These two consecutive rounds now place WPSA within compliance with the lead and copper rule for the first time since 2016,” said Pickering.
The PWSA hopes to replace all of its lead service lines by 2026.
The authority has a $44 million rate hike request for next year pending before the state Public Utility Commission.
