PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Fears of the coronavirus have prompted people to pick up cleaning products at a record pace.

Walmart, Target and other retailers are struggling to keep cleaning wipes and other disinfectants on their shelves.

On Monday, two women tasked with collecting cleaning supplies for the offices that hold KDKA Radio, say they had to go to multiple locations to get what they needed.

Sam’s Club, Lowes, Home Depot, Target and Walmart in the Robinson Township area were all low or out of disinfecting wipes, cleaners, sanitizers and sprays.

Target said in a statement they are limiting the number of products people can buy.

:“Due to high demand and to support all guests, we will be limiting the quantities of disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizers and hand & face wipes to 6 per guest.”

Target CEO Brian Cornell says in addition to the store locations being cleaned daily, they are adding additional hours for extra cleaning , including wiping down surfaces like touchscreens and checkout lanes every 30 minutes.

The CDC has issued a statement on its disinfecting and cleaning recommendations on their website.
