WORTHINGTON, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - An electronic sign in Armstrong County is causing plenty of controversy after it displayed the “n word” asking why can African Americans use the word but white people can’t.
“It was premeditated on my part, I’m older than most people, I’ve see a lot in my lifetime and one thing I do know is God made one race, one race, the human race,” said Placek. “When we label ourselves as Americans it will bring us together and I want that to happen and the only way I could get my word out was to be confrontational, be different and I did that.”
Placek says he hasn’t been threatened personally but his family and employees have been.
“I had to send my daughter home today because these jerks are using terroristic, barbaric message(s) to get their point across; they’re not doing it intelligently. They don’t want to sit down and discuss the real issues.”
Placek says he used the “n word” because it is one of the most inflammatory words in the English language.
“Listen, that word use to be in the dictionary,” said Placek. He then spouted off a number of ethnic slurs to make a point that every group has and offensive name and that people need to “get over it”.
Placek believes his sign is advancing the conversation on race issues.
He adds that he will continue to operate his sign and will now leave the “n word” out of it but he would not apologize for using it.
“That was bad of me, but I’m not going to apologize for it,” said Placek. “I mean it’s a word, it’s a six letter word.”
Placek also says he is not a racist and that he has black and Hispanic grandchildren.
