PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The longtime voice of the Meadows Racetrack, Roger Huston, is stepping back from announcing – he is not retiring.
He will continue his journey in Ohio, becoming a brand ambassador for the Ohio Harness Horseman's Association.
Huston will announce around 500 races a year; compare that to the 188,567 races that he called throughout his career.
"Back when I was a kid I was a statistician, I would sit there and do the stats on football games I'd watch on television and stuff. Then I went to college and I was a sports information director at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio - I lived with stats," Huston said, during an interview with KDKA Radio on Tuesday.
When Huston started in 1960, he kept track of all of the races that he called (99), and never stopped counting.
