PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Charleroi Fire Department posted on their Facebook page requesting all Charleroi residents who are smelling gasoline in their homes/businesses to open the windows.

The CFD was first notified of the smell on Friday morning around 11 a.m at a residence at First Street and Prospect Ave.

As the day went on, more homes and businesses began smelling the gasoline smell.

The smell is from gasoline coming through the sewer drains.

On Friday evening, all firefighters began ventilating homes trying to find the source of the leak.

As of early Sunday morning, CFD and the Street Crew narrowed down an approximate location of the leak, but it extends along all of McKean Ave and goes up the hill.

They ask all residents to do the following if they smell gasoline in their homes/businesses:

  1. Open their windows to allow fresh air in
  2. Flush soapy water down sewer drains to dampen the fumes
  3. If you are feeling ill, call 9-1-1 immediately
