PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A GoFundMe has been set up to provide costumes for cancer patients at the Children’s Hospital in Cranberry Township.
The GoFundMe page was created by Ashley Downey, who said the idea started when she saw a photo of a little girl at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh dressing in a difference princess gown for each of her chemotherapy treatments.
Downey says the donations will gift each child started treatment with a $30 gift card to purchase their own costumes to wear during their life-saving treatments.
“I hope for a scenario where a child walks into their treatments with the opportunity to do so dressed as Superman, Cinderella, or any other host of magical childhood characters," Downey wrote on the fundraising page.
She also hopes that this will go beyond oncology patients to other children that are in the hospital.
The hope is to have the first distribution of gift cards delivered to the hospital in October.
As of September 23rd, the page has already raised $2,340 of the $3,500 initial goal.
