PITTSBURGH (Newradio 1020 KDKA) - “Time for me to make a difference.”

Those were the words that the late Pittsburgh Police Officer Calvin Hall would say before the start of each shift.

They will now forever be a part of Officer Hall’s community as they have been etched into the newly renamed Office Calvin M. Hall Public Safety Center, formerly known as the Northview Heights Public Safety Center.

The center is where Officer Hall worked until his final roll call in July, and was renamed in his honor on Sunday, which would have been his 37thbirthday.

“We are here today to celebrate the life of Calvin Hall, and also to dedicate a building where he worked,” said Pittsburgh Police Sgt. Joe Lewis, who leads the Officer Calvin M. Hall Public Safety Center. “He made a difference in multiple people’s lives, including mine and including every person who’s standing here now.”

According to a press release, the safety center was created to serve residents of Northview Heights and Allegheny Dwellings, working to improve the lives of its residents and built relationships between the community and officers.

It is also where Officer Hall requested to be assigned because of his passion to help his community.

“He left an indelible mark on his brother and sister officers, as well as the community he served,” Police Chief Scott Schubert said. “He was known for his quick smile, ever-optimistic attitude and for his career-long focus on community policing. He was a model officer. He made it a priority to connect with residents, and succeeded in doing so."

Officer Hall was shot three times in the back in July while off-duty. It is believe that he shot after trying to break up a fight.
