PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Parking rates increased on Friday at most city owned garages and lots in Pittsburgh.
Parking Authority Executive Director David Onorato told KDKA Radio’s Joe DeStio on Friday that the price increase affects ten of their twelve garages.
“We’re still the low cost provider of parking in the downtown area,” Onorato said. “We only tweaked the rates that were 40% or greater above the market.”
Most of the garages and lots will see the all day rate increase by a dollar.
Smithfield-Liberty and Mellon Square Garages now have the highest all day parking rate at $20. The lowest cost parking remains at the Second Avenue Plaza at $9 per day.
Onorato said that the Parking Authority tried to keep rates at 25% below what private operators charge.
