Bill Would Allow College Athletes In PA To Be Compensated

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania representatives plan to introduce state legislation that would compensate college athletes.

The Fair Pay to Play Act would take after the controversial legislation that just passed in California, making it legal for college athletes to hire agents, sign endorsements and earn compensation.

Ed Gainey is co-sponsoring the Bill and tells KDKA Radio’s Lynne Hayes Freeland, the legislation will help Pennsylvania colleges to remain competitive in athletics.

“I get an offer to play ball in Pennsylvania or California and I understand the economic freedom I have in California then the decision becomes a little easier for me, I’m going to California,” said Gainey

The bill will apply to all state schools that offer four-year degrees.

Gainey will be introducing the legislation in the very-near future.
