WASHINGTON (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania US Senator Pat Toomey says he will join at least seven other Republicans and all Democrats in the Senate in voting to block President Trump from using a national emergency to fund his proposed border wall with Mexico.
Toomey says he supports a border wall and has voted for even more money than the 5.2 billion dollars the president has requested.
“For me this is certainly not about boarder security, it is about the process the president has chosen for funding that policy,” Toomey said Thursday.
Toomey says it's Congress that has the responsibility to determine spending.
He favors reform of the National Emergency Act to require Congressional consent for any national emergency declared in the future.
